The literary evening “Nikola Vaptsarov’s literary world and Ukraine” was held in the National Parliamentary Library of Ukraine on 23th December to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Bulgarian poet and patriot. The event was organized by the Kyiv Slavonic Studies Institute and the NPLU Foreign Publications Department.
Among the participants of the meeting there were representatives of The Bulgarian Embassy, of Associations “Ukraine–Bulgaria” and “Rodolubie”; lecturers and students of the Kyiv Slavonic Studies Institute, library patrons.
Nikola Vaptsarov is a world famous poet, who was shot down by the fascists as a head of antifascist military organization in Bulgaria. He is the only Bulgarian poet recipient of the honorary World Peace Prize, which received posthumously in 1952. Vaptsarov's only book of poetry "Motor Songs" was published in 1940. His poems are translated in over 50 languages and published in over 40 countries. N. Vaptsarov was included in the UNESCO 2009 calendar.
